More than just a job: Dual study with the Cologne Institute for Management Consulting

Dual study programs are becoming increasingly popular in Germany (Hofmann, 2022). However, this development is not surprising, especially since companies benefit just as much from this model as the students themselves:

From a student's perspective, the most obvious advantage of a dual study program, besides financial independence, is the opportunity to immediately apply what they have learned in practice. Instead of just learning theory, students are immersed directly in the real world of work. This not only allows them to develop a deeper understanding of their field, but also practical skills and soft skills that are invaluable in today's professional world.

You'll also have the opportunity to build a professional network during your studies. You'll work closely with experienced employees, network with experts, and benefit from their expertise. Furthermore, a seamless career transition into the company is possible. Students are already familiar with the company culture, processes, and team before starting their first full-time position, allowing them to easily assess whether the training company is a good fit for them.

Close collaboration with the company team creates a warm and supportive working atmosphere. The exchange with other students who are also completing a dual study program creates a strong sense of community. This positive atmosphere not only promotes learning but also contributes to a pleasant working environment. Furthermore, the exchange with other students from different universities helps you think outside the box.

All students at KI.M are viewed as valuable employees and are treated in no way inferior to full-time employees. Due to our academic focus, we highly value dual study students, among other things, for their proximity to research. Currently, we and our partners at KI.BIT are collaborating with three different universities: Fresenius University of Applied Sciences, FOM University of Applied Sciences for Economics & Management, and Cologne Business School. Due to the high diversity of subjects and research orientations at the various universities, we particularly benefit from the diversity of specialist knowledge.

But what do the students themselves say?

Through KI.M, I can gain valuable professional experience in the field of business psychology while still studying. The flexible work schedule at KI.M allows me to fully concentrate on my studies. (Lucia, student at FOM)

What I particularly like about KI.M is the informal atmosphere and the trust I have in me to take responsibility. Unlike my fellow students, who sometimes have the same tasks every day for weeks, my range of tasks is very broad and gives me the freedom to utilize my strengths and contribute my own ideas. (Freya, student at CBS)

The excellent teaching at my university is being further intensified and consolidated through exchanges with students from other universities and colleges. This gives me the opportunity to discuss current research topics and gain a more comprehensive understanding of the content. (Marius, student at Fresenius University of Applied Sciences)

A dual study program at KI.M offers far more than just a combination of theory and practice. The positive working atmosphere, characterized by openness, teamwork, and continuous learning, makes this educational path a very good choice. We are pleased that Lucia, Freya, and Marius are not only studying, but have also begun their professional journeys with KI.M and KI.BIT.
